Bali – A Jewel in the Indian Ocean
Visit Bali and its Beaches >>
Bali is an Indonesian island that has been a favourite holiday destination for Australian travellers for many years. It is 3 hours by air from Australia’s west coast and just over 5 hours by air from the east coast. Lying 3 kilometres east of Java, south of the equator, it has an area of 5,632 square kilometres and a population of over 3 million people. Over 93% of the population practice the Balinese Hindu religion.
The island is famous for its spectacular scenery and beautiful landscapes. A chain of six volcanoes, between 1,350 meters and 3,142 meters high, stretches from west to east. The highest peak is the easternmost point Mount Agung at 3,142 m high, an active volcano that last erupted in March 1963.
Bali's natural attractions include lush tropical forests, pristine crater lakes, sacred caves, fast flowing rivers and deep ravines, miles of sandy beaches, picturesque centuries-old terraced paddy fields and fertile gardens. The beaches in the southwest have white sand, while beaches in other parts of the island are covered with gray or black volcanic sand. The western side of the island boasts some of the best surfing in the world.
The climate is tropical with daytime temperatures between 20 to 33 degrees Celsius year-round. Between December and March, monsoons from the west can bring heavy showers and high humidity, but usually days are sunny and the rains start during the night and pass quickly. From June to September the humidity is low, there is little rain in the coastal areas and the evenings can be quite cool.
Bali is known for its friendly people and welcomes people from all parts of the world. It has a rich cultural heritage, which is visible in over 20,000 temples and palaces. There are many ceremonies and festivals as well as music and dancing.
Not only is it one of the most beautiful destinations in the world, but there are a wide variety of attractions and plenty of things to do. Travellers can enjoy bargain shopping, an extensive range of accommodation and sporting activities, and above all, the warmth and charm of the Balinese people
Whatever you want from your holiday Bali’s physical beauty and friendly people should guarantee a pleasant relaxing stay.
