Byron Bay, New South Wales

Relax at Byron Bay >>

From cafes to camping; from the sparkling waters and fine sandy beaches to the lush green hinterland, Byron Bay has something to offer everyone.  Two hours south of Brisbane, Byron Bay was once an historic logging town.  It has now become a most popular tourist area due to the wonderful climate.  Nestled on Australia’s most easterly point, visitors can walk along the Cape Byron Walking track to the Lighthouse that was built in 1901 and enjoy some of the history of this unique tourist attraction. From July through to October migrating whales can be easily seen playing off the point, or you watch intrepid adventurers launch themselves off the ramp and soar in the thermals above.

The beaches are perfect for surfing, swimming or fishing or a romantic walk.  Experience snorkeling in the Julian Rocks Marine Reserve, rated one of the ten best dive sites in Australia, where more than 400 species inhabit where the warm tropical and cooler southern currents meet.

For the more adventurous, there is bush walking, hang gliding, water skiing, scuba diving, tandem sky diving, horse riding, deep sea fishing, gliding, kayaking, surfing and more.

The hinterland boasts a mixture of exotic fruits and nuts, sugar cane and native bush tucker.  This is farmed by the locals in the rich volcanic soils.  As you drive through this lush hinterland, it is well worth stopping to enjoy a coffee or tea at some of the many quaint villages each with their own unique handcrafts and arts.

The accommodation is as varied as the landscape.  Byron Bay caters for all tastes and budgets from some most attractive camping areas with excellent facilities nestled in behind some of the more isolated beaches to basic self-contained accommodation to luxurious resorts. The range of dining experiences is just as diverse from simple cafes to award-winning restaurants. Head to the local and enjoy live music or theatre or dance the night away at one of the area’s nightclubs.

And for those just passing through, it is well worth pulling off the highway for a picnic or a light lunch at the lighthouse or fish and chips on the beach.

Historic, beautiful, lush Byron Bay is waiting with a memorable experience for traveller and passer by.
