Dreamworld on the Gold Coast

Fantastic Gold Coast Holidays >>

Nestled just off the Pacific Motorway between the Gold Coast and Brisbane is Dreamworld. One of the first theme parks on the Gold Coast, it has grown to become one of the major theme parks in Australia, and also become infamous as the place where Australian Big Brother was filmed.

Dreamworld prides itself on having the “Big Six Thrill Rides”. Having tested them with my family in my opinion they are rated with “The Giant Drop” as the scariest, followed by “The Claw”, “Wipeout”, and their three rollercoasters “The Tower of Terror”, “The Cyclone” and “Motocoaster” coming equal last in the fright stakes.

Not only does the park have these and a number of other “family” rides that will keep the older kids happy, but for the younger children they have a number of gentle rides including the Wiggles World for the real littlies, and Nickelodeon Central to amuse the slightly older children.

There is more to Dreamworld then just amusement park rides. Dreamworld is home to Tiger Island which currently houses two Cougars, six rare Bengal Tigers and eight rare Sumatran Tigers including three cubs born in June 2008. Dreamworld donates a percentage of money raised from all Tiger Walks and photos to saving tigers in the wild.

Dreamworld also houses the Australian Wildlife Experience, where over 800 native animals can be found including some that are cuddly, and some not so cuddly. For an extra fee there are a number of different ways you can have an up-close experience with the cuddly animals, and you can sponsor any animal through the park. Details can be found on the Dreamworld website.

Dreamworld is the only Queensland theme park with an IMAX theatre. Here you can take a break from the rides and relax in air-conditioned comfort at the big screen IMAX Theatre which seats 400 people. The screen provides six storeys of mega blockbuster action.

Dreamworld has multiple park super passes that offer a sizable discount if you are also going to Sea World and Warner Bros Movie World parks. Tickets can be bought at the door, but most accommodation on the Gold Coast can also offer discount admission tickets. There are many Gold Coast packages that include admission to Dreamworld plus door to door transfers to and from your accommodation to the theme parks.
