Sea World on the Gold Coast
One of the first theme parks built on the Gold Coast, Sea World is located a stones throw from the ocean, and five minutes drive north of Surfers Paradise.
While it is famous as a theme park with a host of rides, including Australia’s first Triple Loop Roller Coaster, it also has numerous other shows and attractions that will keep the entire family entertained, including water ski shows and performing dolphins. Add in Polar Bear Shores, Dugong Discovery and Shark Cove, then Sea World has more than enough to occupy the entire family, without looking at a ride.
Dugong Discovery features a naturalistic oceanarium showcasing marine life found in the oceans off South East Queensland, including dugongs, stingrays, turtles and fish. You can view sharks, stingrays and exotic tropical fish both above-water and underwater at the Shark Bay man-made lagoon system, while at Polar Bear Shores you can see Australia’s only polar bears, and watch them through underwater viewing windows.
Sea World also offers a number of different ways that visitors can interact with these animals. If you want to swim with sharks, dolphins or seals, then Sea World has a package that will suit you. These are not just for adults, with a number of packages tailored for children.
If the day gets too hot for you then you can always cool off in one of the many swimming pools and water slides in the Sea World Water park. Sea World also offers whale watching tours (in season) and helicopter rides.
Sea World is more than a theme park. It is also one of Australia's leading marine rescue agencies, with the skills learned from keeping animals being used to nurse injured animals back to health.
Sea World has multiple park super passes that offer a sizable discount if you are also going to Movie World and Wet and Wild parks. Tickets can be bought at the door, but most accommodation on the Gold Coast can also offer discount admission tickets. There are many Gold Coast packages that include admission to Sea World plus door to door transfers to and from your accommodation to the theme parks.
There is so much to do at Sea World, you would be hard pressed to do everything in one day, so why not plan your stay to include a couple of days at Sea World.
