Broome is a special location, different to any other in Australia and one that will win a place in your heart and soul.

There’s just something about Broome that makes it so appealingly different to any other part of Australia.

Broome is a small town born in the 1880s out of isolation and initiative amongst such beauty and wonder – turquoise blue waters off the picture perfect beaches, huge cattle stations inland, magnificent gorges and ancient aboriginal history.

Located at the southern gateway to the vast Kimberley region on a narrow peninsula surrounded by the Indian Ocean and Roebuck Bay, Broome was only accessible by dirt road until the mid 1980s. The town grew in gold rush fashion on the back of the discovery of the world’s largest pearl shell and although this remains a major industry, locals and visitors alike remain captivated more by the natural beauty and laid back atmosphere. There’s nothing quite like watching a beautiful Broome sunset and waking to the chorus of migratory birds.

Broome has its very own curious architecture, a mixture of colonial, mission houses, churches, pearling huts and more recent housing – a perfect reflection of its spirit and history.
The town suffered from the events of World War II and the subsequent collapse of the pearl industry, but has since rebuilt on the back of the cultured pearl and the popularity of the area as a tourist destination.

Relax and take in the beauty of the area and the melting pot of international jewellers, fishermen, station hands, travellers and locals. Broome is different and well worth experiencing for yourself.

See all the best parts of Broome and the great North West in this excellent package.
