While Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (Olgas) are accessible to all, there are a wonderful number of places that are only accessible by 4WD and are perfect for exploring with a small group to give you the feeling of a closer bond with this ancient place.

 

Day 1 Tue. Alice Springs. On arrival, transfer to your hotel. Tour Alice Springs including the Old Telegraph Station, Royal Flying Doctor Service Base and the School of the Air. Get to know your fellow travellers over welcome drinks this evening.

Day 2 Wed. Rainbow Valley, Uluru (Ayers Rock), Uluru BBQ Dinner. Tour to the remote and spectacular Rainbow Valley area for stunning views, an amazing photographic opportunity. Travel past Atila (Mt Conner), a mesa in the middle of the Central Australian desert. Witness the sunset with drinks and nibbles, followed by a gourmet BBQ dinner close to the base of Uluru.


Two Night Stay: Yulara, Voyages Desert Gardens Hotel.

Day 3 Thur. Uluru, Kantju Gorge, Dot Painting Workshop. Rise early and enter the famous Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park for a spectacular views of Uluru at sunrise. The more energetic may walk around the base of Uluru or climb the monolith. Learn about Uluru on a guided walk to Mutitjulu waterhole and sacred Kantju Gorge. Tour around the base of Uluru and visit the Uluru Cultural Centre. This afternoon join Aboriginal artists for a fun introduction to Aboriginal art. Join the artists and try your own hand at dot painting, the results of which are yours to take home.

Day 4 Fri. Walpa (Olga) Gorge, Kings Canyon Wilderness Lodge. Tour to Kata Tjuta (Olgas), a series of domes weathered down to an intricate maze of valleys and hollows. You’ll enjoy panoramic views of the domes and walk into Walpa Gorge. Travel to our own exclusive Kings Canyon Wilderness Lodge situated at Kings Creek Station among the desert oaks.

Two Night Stay: APT EXCLUSIVE! King Canyon Wilderness Lodge, luxury air-conditioned tented accommodation with private ensuites.

 

Day 5 Sat. Watarrka National Park, Kings Creek Station. Enter Watarrka National Park located at the western end of the George Gill Range. Learn about the park on an escorted walk along the ridge of Kings Canyon that features ancient sandstone walls sculptured by the elements. A less demanding (but unescorted) walk along the creekbed is also available. Tour Kings Creek Station and learn about station life in an arid environment. The remainder of the afternoon is free to relax. Optional scenic helicopter flights and escorted quad bike activities are available (own expense). Enjoy sunset drinks before dinner.

Day 6 Sun. Gosse Bluff, Glen Helen, Ormiston Gorge. Travel along the rugged Mereenie Track to Tnorala (Gosse Bluff) Conservation Reserve. Here a huge meteorite hit the earth millions of years ago. The area is of cultural significance to local Aboriginals as well as being of scientific importance. Stop at Glen Helen for a short walk to the gorge and visit Ormiston Gorge, the jewel of the West MacDonnell Ranges. Then visit the Ochre Pits where for centuries Aboriginals have mined coloured ochres, before your arrival into Alice Springs.

Day 7 Mon. Finke Gorge National Park, Palm Valley, Hermannsburg. 7 Day (CA07) passengers conclude tour after breakfast. Ford the ancient Finke River and enter Finke Gorge National Park. Explore among the ancient cycad palms of Palm Valley.
Stop at historic Hermannsburg, founded by Lutheran missionaries and where the famous artist Albert Namatijra lived. Walk through the art gallery and learn about the history of some world-renowned Aboriginal artists.
